Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) is widely utilized in molecular diagnostic and underlies almost all of the modern molecular cloning. Using PCR, a defined target sequence can be selectively amplified in an exponential chain reaction that generates millions of copies. The method requires only some knowledge of nucleotide sequence of a target DNA molecule and is simple to set up, cheap, sensitive, robust and rapid. These qualities attribute PCR a common molecular biology technique employed in diagnostic purposes.
